Furniture donations are being sought for the historic home of An tOileánach on the Blasket Islands.

The Office of Public Works is currently completing the renovation of the house in which writer Tomás Ó Criomhthain lived.

Tables, chairs and a ‘settle bed’ are being sought, time-appropriate for the era – the OPW are asking anyone who wishes to donate to email a photograph to [email protected]

Tomás Ó Criomthain wrote two books in the house: Allagar na h-Inise (Island Cross-Talk) published in 1928 and An t-Oileánach (The Islandman) published in 1929.

He also coined the phrase ‘Ní Bheidh Ár Léithéidí Ann Arís’ (our likes will not be seen again).

Once completed the house, on An Bhlascaoid Mór, is expected to be a major tourist attraction.
