Environmental group says proposed road through Killarney National Park may kill the golden goose

The National Parks and Wildlife Service has applied for planning permission to construct an access road to, and a car park at, Tomies West and Gortdirra, Beaufort. Killarney National Park Granting planning permission for this road will involve Kerry County Council allowing a material contravention to its county development plan. A material contravention of a county development plan allows land to be rezoned for a specific project. Tony Lowes from Friends of the Irish Environment says this road leads to one of the most sensitive parts of Killarney National Park. He added that the creation of the road and subsequent increase in visitors to the area could upset its fragile ecology: [audio_player src=”http://media.radiokerry.ie/mediamanager/embed/audio/33827/medium/”]
