Councillor Graham Spring has announced he will not contest the local elections in May.

The current Mayor of the Tralee Municipal District had been nominated to run for the Labour Party in the Tralee electoral area but has now withdrawn his name.

It will be the first time since 1943 that the Spring name has not appeared on the ballot paper.

Family commitments and plans to develop a career are among the main reasons Cllr Graham Spring has dropped out of the race.

He says plans to further his education along with the time commitments that brings, resulted in a conflict that he wasn’t aware of until recently, which is why he has withdrawn with just weeks to go before the May 24th elections.

The Mayor of Tralee says it wasn’t an easy decision but that family comes first.
