Elliott Called Into Ireland Squad For Poland Qualifier

Rob Elliott has been called into the Republic of Ireland squad for Sunday’s final Euro qualifier with Poland. The Newcastle keeper takes the place of the injured Shay Given. Seamus Coleman and Marc Wilson are both expected to be fit for the Warsaw clash having missed last night’s win over Germany through injury. FIFA could consider delaying next year’s presidential elections. A successor to the outgoing – and currently suspended – Sepp Blatter is due to be confirmed next February. An emergency meeting of FIFA’s executive committee looks likely to happen within the next fortnight, and a Belgian delegate says a postponement could be discussed there. There’ll be a meeting of UEFA’s member associations in Switzerland next week, amid the suspensions announced yesterday.
