Election to determine who will run Kerry’s VEC

Parents and teachers in the county will be going to the polls next month in a unique election to determine who will run Kerry`s Vocational Education Committees. It’s all part of a major shake up in the administration of VEC run schools and colleges. Under the modernisation plan there will be 2 elected parent’s representatives and 2 elected staff representatives added to the committee of the Kerry Education Service. Polling booths will be set up in each of the 8 second level VEC schools and voting is due to take place on October 8th next. Barney O Reilly, Chief Executive of the Kerry Education Service, says this is a whole new departure in education.
