An elderly West Kerry woman has lost €1,000 after falling victim to a telephone scam.
The Ballydavid woman received a call on February 14th from a man claiming to represent the telecommunictions company Eir.
He persuaded her to give him her bank details on the grounds that he was carrying out support work on her landline.
As she had recently installed a landline with Eir, the woman believed the caller to be legitimate but subsequently discovered that €1,000 had been taken from her bank account.
