Kerry councillors condemn Green leader’s carpool suggestion

Two Kerry councillors say proposals by the Green party leader are incredulous.

They were speaking after Eamon Ryan proposed rural villages would share a number of cars between families.

Kerry’s Sinn Féin general election candidate Cllr Pa Daly said the proposals show how out of touch the Green Party and Eamon Ryan are with the reality of living and working in rural Ireland.

Independent Cllr Jackie Healy-Rae says you can`t expect people to give up their cars in areas where public transport is practically non-existent.

Green party representative in South Kerry, Cleo Murphy has defended her leader’s comments.

She points out that some people living in Cahersiveen are car-pooling and have a dedicated Facebook page.

Ms Murphy says not everyone in rural Ireland has a car.
