Over €94,000 in LEADER funding allocated to Kerry projects

Over €94,000 in LEADER funding has been allocated to Kerry projects.

The LEADER programme funds projects under a range of themes that include enterprise development, rural tourism, social inclusion and the environment.

Ballyheigue Biodiversity Group will receive €9,100 to conduct a feasibility study on an interactive resource centre, while €23,000 has been allocated to Bill Maguire to construct an all-weather training arena at an Ardfert equestrian centre.

In Castleisland, the Tidy Towns committee will get €2,000 and Robert McGuire will get €2,500 for creating a digital reconstruction of Castleisland Castle.

Gneeveguilla Community Development Council CLG is to receive €27,500, the South Kerry Development Partnership will get €11,000, while John Cashell has been allocated €11,800 to conduct a feasibility study into refurbishing the Day in the Bog Centre in Kilflynn.

Fine Gael senator Paul Coghlan has welcomed the announcement, saying the funding represents an enormous opportunity for rural businesses and communities that are in need of investment.
