A man has been arrested after Gardaí seized €4,800 worth of suspected cannabis in West Kerry.

Gardaí from the Kerry Divisional Drugs Unit were assisted by Dingle Gardaí during the operation which took place in the Lispole area yesterday.

At around 6pm Gardaí executed a search warrant at a house in the Lispole area.

The occupant refused to let them enter the property and Gardaí were then forced to breech the back door of the house.

During the search they seized €4,800 of cannabis plants which were located in a polytunnel in the back garden; Gardaí also seized a small amount of cannabis herb and a grinder from inside the house.

The local Scenes of Crime Unit attended and photographed the scene and the seized items. The suspected drugs will now be sent for analysis.

A man, aged in his 40s, was arrested at the scene and brought to Tralee Garda Station; he was detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 and later released.

A file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
