Over €1.6 million in funding has been allocated towards 54 sports projects in Kerry.
Junior Minister for Tourism and Sport Brendan Griffin made the announcement this morning.
Funds from the Sports Capital Programme can be used for the development or refurbishment of sports facilities and for the provision of sports equipment.
Four Kerry projects were granted €75,000 each, which is the highest individual allocation for the county this year.
The Sports Capital Programme application process has previously been described as too bureaucratic by sports clubs, however, Minister Griffin says it’s now more accessible:
The funding announcement has been welcomed by Fianna Fáil TD John Brassil, Sinn Féin’s Martin Ferris, Independent TDs Michael and Danny Healy-Rae and Fine Gael Senator Paul Coghlan.
