Dundalk Retain Premier Division Title

Dundalk have retained their SSE Airtricity Premier Division title. Stephen Kenny’s side drew 1-all away to Shamrock Rovers, thanks to a late Richie Towell penalty in Tallaght. Ironically, Dundalk were done a favour by their Louth rivals Drogheda United, who held second placed Cork City to a 1-all draw. With the results, the Lilywhites secure an eleventh league title and the first part of a potential double. Vinny Faherty’s double saw Limerick win 3-1 at Galway and move to within a point of second-bottom Sligo. Elsewhere, Derry were 3-1 winners at home to Bray, while Bohemians won their final Dublin derby of the season, beating St. Pat’s 2-nil at Dalymount. Sligo can move out of the Airtricity League Premier Division relegation playoff spot tonight with a win away to Longford. In the First Division, UCD clinched the second promotion play off spot. The Students were 1-nil winners at home to Cabinteely tonight, and saw their rivals Shelbourne fall to a 4-1 defeat at champions Wexford. Elsewhere, second placed Finn Harps drew 1-1 at Athlone.
