Drink driving laws contribute to suicide rates in rural areas

The drink driving laws are a contributing factor to suicide rates among single men in rural areas, but local communities are beginning to respond to the problem. John Redeken of the Dingle Peninsula Men’s Action group, Dochas, acknowledges that less men will drive a few miles to a pub and drive home after a few pints. He says more supports are now in place to help single men cope with their lonliness. Mr Redeken says some people are prepared to drive the men to and from the pub in an effort to help them interact with others.
