The number of people arrested on suspicion of drink-driving in Kerry during the first nine months of this year is up on the same period for 2004. So far, Gardai in the county have arrested 386 people in connection with drink driving offences. Gardai were kept busy during the final weeks of the summer period.Despite seeing a reduction in the number of drink driving arrests in the months of July, August and September, the total number stands at 139. 45 people were arrested in both July and September and 49 arrests were made in August. Gardai in Kerry say they are preparing for a potentially busy three months towards the end of the year. The next Bank Holiday weekend is over two weeks away and then it will be time to prepare for the Christmas campaign to clamp down on drink driving. Once again, Gardai are asking motorists to leave the car at home if they intend taking a drink or else, either take a taxi home or appoint someone as a designated driver.
