Draft net fishermen have reacted with dismay and sadness to the decision by anglers to walk out of a recent meeting of the South West Regional Fisheries Board. The draft net sector claim the vote which caused the walk out was fair and democratic. They are seeking a change in practice and want monofilament nets to be legalized for health and safety reasons. In a letter to the Oireachtas Committee on the Marine the draft net fishermen say it’s sad to see a proven scientific report objected to. The letter says they have no grievances with the anglers but were dismayed by their objections to the report.
