Divorce rates treble in Ireland since 1997

Tralee Circuit Court granted 72 divorce applications in 2004, more than half the total it received. The latest figures show that divorce has trebled in Ireland since legislation was introduced in 1997, while the number of judicial separations has more than doubled.The Circuit Court in Tralee received 48 applications for judicial separations and granted 32 of them. Pat Bennett of the Family Support Agency says many couples do not go through the judicial system.
