18 Naomh Og boat races are taking place this weekend in Dingle as part of the towns regatta. The Dingle regatta dates back to 1857 and today will see the launch of the final race by Sean Haughey. There will also be Currach and Noamhog Boats on show in different stages of build along with skeleton boats and an appearance of Celtic Mist, the boat of the late Taoiseach, Charlie Haughey. Children and adults will also be taught how to build the Naomh Og’s and currach’s and how to row them. Chairman of Dingle Regatta Eddy Hutchinson who has built boats for a former President of Poland and Pope John Paul II says there s a strong tradition of Naomh Og racing in West Kerry.
