Derry City Miss Chance To Join Pats On Top Of Table

airtricity Derry City have missed-out on another chance to join St Patrick’s Athletic at the top of the table in the Airtricity League Premier Division tonight. The Candystripes have once-again failed to take advantage of the league leader’s European involvement after a 2-1 defeat to Shamrock Rovers at the Tallaght Stadium. A pair of brilliant goals from Sean O’Connor helped the Hoops to claim all 3 points. O’Connor’s swerving volley in the 38th minute put the home side ahead at half-time, but that was cancelled-out by Michael Rafter’s 49th minute penalty. O’Connor restored Rovers’ lead just minutes later when he cut-in off the right wing to curl a brilliant shot into the far, bottom corner. Dundalk have beaten Bohemians 3-nil at Oriel Park. Pat Hoban’s hat-trick helped Dundalk to leap-frog Sligo Rovers and move up into 3rd place in the table. Shelbourne have taken another step towards climbing off the bottom of the table after a 2-1 win over Cork City at Tolka Park. Second-half goals from Lee Murtagh and Darren Tinnelly were enough for Shels to claim the 3 points, despite a late goal from Cork’s Kalen Spillane. A deal has been completed that will see an American owner take over at Fulham. Shahid Khan, who already controls the Jacksonville Jaguars American Football team, has bought the club from Mohamed Al Fayed.
