Department receives proposal to provide wireless Broadband in Kerry.

A six million euro proposal to provide wireless broadband across the county is being considered by the Department of Communications. Kerry is the only county based proposal received by the department to date. According to Joe Mc Grath of Kerry County Council wireless access points are the most cost effective way of providing Broadband in Kerry. He says looking at the geography of the county and the dispersed nature of the population, wireless is the only viable option. Under the proposal almost 80 per cent of households will be close to an access point. According to Mr Mc Grath if the department were to give the go ahead to Kerry the council would be looking for a 90 per cent subsidy leaving it with a one off cost of €658,000.
