Department of Finance delegates visit Listowel.

Three delegates from the Department of Finance have traveled to Listowel ahead of the decentralisation of 50 jobs to the town. The delegation met with auctioneers and school principals as well as representatives from Shannon Development and the Town Council. The purpose of the visit was to view first hand the amenities on offer in the town. Radio Kerry News has learned that Liam Irwin the Director General of the South West Region with the department sees no problem with the move to Listowel.Delegates from the revenue section of the Department of Finance visited Listowel last week to hold preliminary discussions with business and education authorities in the town. A separate delegation from the Office of Public Works will arrive in the town to look for suitable premises for civil servants at a later date. Some of the items discussed on this visit include classroom sizes and the provision of I.T. at the schools and the proximity of the Institute of Technology from the town. It`s understood Mr Irwin also inquired about leisure and cultural facilities in the area. It`s anticipated that Charlie Mc Creevy’s Department will be one of the first to move and if this is the case Listowel could see the 50 decentralized jobs relatively quickly.
