The Department of Education has allocated €2 million towards the creation of the MTU.
The funding, which is part of the department’s national allocation of over €14 million, aims to assist in the restructuring and consolidation of higher education projects.
The creation of the Munster Technological University is due to be completed during the first quarter of 2020, following the proposed merger between the Institute of Technology Tralee and the Cork Institute of Technology.
Joe McHugh, the Minister for Education and Skills, postponed the granting of the application to merge the two institutes in June, in order to give the project more time to achieve the required eligibility criteria.
The department’s allocation of €2 million will be disbursed by the Higher Education Authority to the MTU, subject to ongoing monitoring, reporting and evaluation.
