A delay in the repair of the crane at Fenit Pier has resulted in local fishermen having to pay a private company for the same service.

That’s according to Sinn Féin Cllr Deirdre Ferris, who raised the issue at the recent Tralee Municipal District meeting, saying the original timeline for the repair was two weeks.

She said, however, it’s now over 12 weeks since the crane was sent away, and fishermen have to pay €200 per lift to a private company.

Kerry County Council says the crane from Fenit had to be sent to the UK, and needed additional repairs which took an extra six to eight weeks for delivery of parts.

They hope the repairs will be complete and the crane returned by early October.
