Dail sitting on Road Traffic Bill ends in uproar

A late sitting of the Dáil ended in uproar last night, as TDs debated the Road Traffic Bill.

The legislation’s been stalled by members of the Rural Independent Group, which includes Kerry Independent TDs Danny and Michael Healy-Rae, who oppose the tough drink-driving penalties.

They’ve been accused by the Minister for Transport of staging a filibuster.


When a vote was called to end the debate last night, members of the Rural Alliance were in a defiant mood:
