Criticism of Departments response to hospital waiting lists

The Department of Health’s response to the cause of waiting lists for the Curam Care grant in Kerry is not satisfactory according to Deputy Breda Moynihan Cronin. Of the 70 home care grants awarded to people in Kerry only 23 have received payment, the other 44 have been put on a waiting list.Deputy Moynihan Cronin says the recipients of these grants cannot afford to wait. Minister of State Sean Power says the grant is but one of a number of services available within the Health Service Executive Southern area to support older people in the home. He says the allocation from the department for 2005, limits the numbers of applications to receive payment at any one time.
