Criminal proceedings have been opened against FIFA president Sepp Blatter. Switzerland’s attorney general says Blatter is being investigated on suspicion of criminal mismanagement, and misappropriation. Swiss police have also searched Blatter’s office and seized data as part of their criminal investigation. Blatter was due to speak earlier at a news conference following an executive committee meeting of the organisation, but it was cancelled without explanation only minutes before its scheduled start. In addition, clubs will only have to release their players to their national teams just a week before the opening match.
