Councillors vote in favour of delisting Dungail House

Councillors have voted in favour of delisting the contentious Dungail House on Valentia Island. This means the owners can now apply for planning permission to demolish the house and replace it with a multi million euro commercial and housing development. A unanimous vote was taken at this morning’s county council meeting. Seven submissions were made to the council, 2 in support of the delisting and 5 against. Included in the submissions was an independent report which admitted that although the house was in a bad condition, it is not beyond repair. However Councillor Paul O Donoghue, who proposed the motion, said the building had no aesthetic, cultural or architectural value. He said it was the wish of the people of Knightstown and Valentia to have the building delisted.
