Councillors Lament Killarney’s Sky-Line

The state of Killarney’s sky-line was lamented by several councillors at the April meeting of the town council.Councillors expressed concerns that high-rise developments were dwarfing many of the town’s historical buildings, and threatening to create an ‘urban jungle’.Mayor Courtenay intervened, telling councillors that ‘it was no good closing the gate when the cow was gone out’.He reminded councillors that they had given up private meetings with planners, and passed a resolution to make planning meetings public. This decision, the Mayor said, was ‘a mistake’.Cllr. Pat O’Connor said the meetings had been made public in order to ensure ‘transparency’.
