A Kerry county councillor has branded Irish Water a disgrace and says the utility should be disbanded.
Cllr Jackie Healy-Rae said there is as a serious health and safety issue with a lack of a sewerage scheme in villages such as Currow and Scartaglin.
The independent councillor says people are concerned about the environment and he asked where is the sewage going.
In response to the motion, Irish Water said smaller unserviced areas are challenging due to high costs and generally lower environmental impact and current priorities don’t allow it to tackle them.
Irish Water says it supports initiatives to provide drainage and treatment systems in smaller areas and is engaging with the Department of Housing and local authorities on this.
