Councillor says extending fast food opening hours will damage Killarney

A Killarney councillor is concerned about plans to extend opening hours of take-aways in the town. Donal Grady 1 The OKR group, which operates Burger King in Killarney, has applied for planning permission to extend its opening hours from 1am to 3:30am at weekends. The group claims that the change in the opening hours could ease anti-social behaviour in the town. Under planning laws, there are restrictions on the number of take-aways that can open after 1am in Killarney town centre. Last May, Killarney was awarded a Purple Flag which honours excellence in the management of a town centre between 5pm and 5am. Councillor Donal Grady fears for the future of the town’s purple flag status if the proposal is approved.
