Councillor Niall Kelleher has stepped down as Fianna Fáil chairman for Kerry.
The Rathmore councillor was elected chairperson at the party’s Comhairle Dáil Ceantair last October.
Fianna Fáil received a number of complaints alleging the party’s constitution doesn’t allow an elected representative to hold such a position; the party is investigating the matter, but Cllr Kelleher doesn’t believe his election breached regulations.
He’s now stepped down from the role, and Christy O’Connell has taken over.
Cllr Kelleher says his resignation is not because of the investigation, but is due to the fact that he has too many things on, and is set to become Killarney Municipal District Cathaoirleach in June.
