A Kerry County Councillor has called for the reintroduction of the Town Councils.

The councils were abolished in 2014 and resulted in the creation of four municipal districts in the county.

Fianna Fail Cllr Michael Cahill claimed the move has had a detrimental effect on tourism, job creation and the provision of services in the three main towns.

Although not commenting on the move to abolish town councils, Kerry County Council said it has clearly established structures within the county to deal with economic and community development, including the Economic Development Unit, Local Enterprise Office and a tourism strategy.
