Councillor calls for review of housing regulations for separated people

An Independent County Councillor is calling on the local authority to ask the Department of the Environment to review the social housing assessment regulations concerning separated people. Cllr Michael Cahill   Councillor Michael Cahill says that people who are the joint owners of properties are deemed ineligible for social housing support unless they are separated under an order of the court or by Deed of Separation. He says this regulation discriminates against separated people with a housing need. Kerry County Council says once there is a Deed of Separation in place, in certain cases an application can be determined.
