Councillor believes reducing speed limit at busy Kerry junction would improve safety

A councillor says a reduction in the speed limit to 50km per hour on a mid-Kerry road is needed to improve safety.

Cllr John Sheahan said locals in the Beaufort Bridge area on the N72 Killarney to Killorglin road are concerned that someone could be killed on the route.

He asked the council to write to Transport Infrastructure Ireland to introduce a 50km speed zone at the busy junction.

The local authority said the national road network including this section of the N72 has been assessed by TII as part of a speed limit review.

The council added there are proposals to reduce the limits on some national roads, including on the Ring of Kerry from 100kph to 80kph.

Members of the municipal districts are to be briefed on these proposals over the next six weeks ahead of the draft bye-laws going on public display in September.
