Council to examine how to remove graffiti on viaduct

Kells Viaduct graffitiKerry County Council has said it will examine safe solutions to removing graffiti on the historic railway viaduct at Kells. Deputy Brendan Griffin has called for action to be taken following numerous acts of graffiti on the listed structure which runs alongside the main N70 route. Ger McNamara, Senior Roads Engineer, said that the graffiti on the viaduct is an eyesore and that its removal is desirable. However, he disagreed with the deputy’s suggestion that a low cost ‘painting over’ of the writing would be an option. He said that any work to be conducted at this location has a very high risk from a health and safety perspective but the Council will assess what can be done.
