Council to be contacted by Department over level of development charges

KCC logoKerry County Council is among a group of local authorities which is to be contacted by the Department of the Environment about the need to reduce development levies. The government is asking councils which have retained levels at pre-boom levels to reduce them in a bid to boost the construction sector and see more houses built. It’s reported that 14 councils – including Kerry – have not complied with this new policy and are to receive reminders in the coming weeks. Just 17 out of 31 councils have have cut their development charges since the government policy was launched a year and a half ago.
