Kerry County Council says it’s not possible to place CCTV on the Short Mountain road outside Tralee on a permanent basis.
Fianna Fáil Cllr Norma Foley says litter is a problem at both viewing points on the road, and she asked the council to consider placing cameras in the area.
The local authority says the remote area isn’t suitable to locate permanent or semi-permanent cameras due to the need for power and lack of shelter in the area.
They say, however, that covert cameras are sometimes located at the viewing points and will continue to be used from time to time.
They add that they had one successful prosecution in 2016 for dumping at that location.
