Kerry County Council is to proceed with plans to knock the old Denny Bacon Factory in Tralee.

A report on the proposal, which will see the chimney stack maintained, came before the recent meeting of Tralee Municipal District.

These proposals involve demolishing and clearing the Denny Bacon Factory structure and buildings at the Island of Geese, Tralee.

The industrial red brick chimney will be maintained and conserved, and a temporary landscaped open space area will be provided.

Councillors gave the plan the go ahead at the recent meeting of Tralee Municipal District.
The whole former Denny site will be subject to a masterplan; the council is currently seeking tenders for consultants to develop the plan.

The consultants will be asked to come up with ideas for the area, and to take into account public submissions; 30% of the site must be retained for public space/amenities.

The deadline for receipt of tenders for consultants is January 20th, and it’s anticipated the masterplan will be completed by the end of next year.
