Kerry County Council management say they are open to suggestions about a free parking proposal for Tralee. The motion for one hour’s free parking in the county town was discussed at the Tralee Municipal District meeting. Cllr Thomas McEllistrim told the meeting the free parking was a means to attract more people to the town centre and a similar system in Castleisland has been very successful. Mayor Jim Finucane agreed suggesting buying one hour’s parking and getting a second free may be easier to police. Cllr Norma Foley added that the free parking in the run up to Christmas should be offered again this year. Manager of Tralee Municipal District Charlie O’Sullivan said the purpose of parking fees is to regulate traffic and free up spaces. Officials are examining the options available and said they are keen to maintain the approach taken by Tralee Town Council.
