Council issues 5 tenants with notices to quit.

5 tenants have been issued with notices to vacate their council homes after they ran up debts of up 10,000 euro. Tralee Town Council is preparing to issue a further 17 notices to quit in the coming weeks. Up to 70,000 euro has been collected in rent arrears since last June according to Tralee Town Council. Radio Kerry News understands that two tenants have subsequently made provisions to clear their arrears.In November of last year Tralee Town Council was to reposess 13 houses after the tenants ran up debts in excess of 1,000 euro. In a report to the Council Arrears Manager Kay Galvan said communication had been made regarding the tenants arrears. This month Radio Kerry News has learned that 22 council houses are to receive notices to vacate the premises for failure to pay rent or arrears. A number of tenants have debts of up to 10,000 euro.According Kay Galvan house calls were made to a number of homes in an effort to get up to date information. In addition the Council is working with the money advice and budgeting service to try and get a full picture of each individual`s circumstances. Speaking to radio Kerry News Kay Galvan said in the long term it`s hoped to prevent arrears from arising.
