The contract for the Macroom Bypass has been signed.
The Cabinet agreed in October to give approval to Cork County Council to award the contract for the scheme, which will involve a €280 million upgrade of the N22 Cork-Kerry road.
Signing of the contract comes eight years after An Bord Pleanála granted planning permission for the project.
Kerry’s Junior Minister and Fine Gael TD Brendan Griffin, Cathaoirleach of Kerry County Council Niall Kelleher, Director of Roads Charlie O’Sullivan and CEO of Kerry County Council Moira Murell were in Cork this afternoon for the signing of the contract.
Once construction starts, it is expected it will take three-and-a-half years to complete.
