Consultant says better procedures now in place for maternity care in Kerry

There are now better procedures in place for maternity care in Kerry.

That’s according to Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at UHK, Dr Paul Hughes, who was speaking following the publication of the Maternity Clinical Complaints Review.

It looked at cases that spanned 40 years; most related to Portlaoise but there were also some relating to University Hospital Kerry, or Kerry General Hospital as it was known at the time, as well as Cork University Maternity Hospital.

Dr Paul Hughes says UHK works with other hospitals in the region on sharing knowledge and seeking resources; this team is led by Professor John R Higgins, clinical director of maternity services for the South/South West Hospital Group.
