Commissioner wants to hear from mid-ranking gardai on recent scandals

The Garda Commissioner has defended her comments made  to a Dáil committee that the controversy involving the inflation of breath test figures  was at best due to incompetence and at worst deception.

Norin O’Sullivan is due to address the AGSI’s annual conference in Killarney,  the first time she’s met the body since the revelations regarding breath tests and wrongful convictions.

The association – which represents sergeants and inspectors – have been critical of her comments saying that the finger of blame for the scandal is being pointed downwards.

AGSI President Antoinette Cunningham will say members were not shown due process by the Commissioner in her recent comments.

Noirin O’Sullivan says  that Garda headquarters has not ignored Garda inspectorate reports recommending change to the organisation.
