Independent Cllr Jackie Healy Rae also highlighted the need for good quality broadband in the county, particularly during the current public health crisis.

Cllr Michael O’Shea called on Kerry County Council to carry out a study of the inadequate broadband services within Milltown village, with a view of sourcing funding for an upgrade.

He told the council it was impossible for some people to work from home, due to a delay in the service.

Independent Cllr Jackie Healy Rae told the meeting, we’d seen the need for good broadband around the county recently, as many people continue to work from home due to the COVID-19 restrictions.

Cllr Healy Rae asked that the council’s Broadband Officer would seek an update in relation to the implementation of the National Broadband Plan in the Castleisland Corca Dhuibhne MD and around Kerry.

The council confirmed its Broadband Officer would request an update from the National Broadband team.

In response to Cllr Michael O’Shea’s motion, the council said a study of broadband services was carried out number of years ago within the county.

The council added that it will undertake to review this study and will liaise also with the broadband service providers regarding coverage in the Milltown area.

The council also stated it was looking at repurposing buildings around the county for hubs.
