A civil engineering firm was paid over €5.7 million by Kerry County Council in 2018.
Sorensen Civil Engineering Ltd., a company with its Irish base in Cork, is one of the largest construction contractors in Ireland.
Sorensen Civil Engineering Ltd. has undertaken a number of large-scale works in Kerry in recent years, including the bridges on the N22, the Waterville Wastewater Treatment Plant and the recently completed N70 Milltown-Killorglin works.
According to Kerry County Council’s list of purchase orders over €20,000, it was revealed that the Cork-based company was paid €5,722,198 in 2018.
Sorensen Civil Engineering Ltd. was the highest paid contractor by the council last year.
Other notable payments went to McSweeney Bros Contracts and Quarries Ltd. for €5.3 million; €4.2 million to Glas Civil Engineering Ltd.; and €3.2 million to Kenmare Plant Hire Ltd.
