Chile Win Copa America

Chile have won the Copa America for the first time. They beat Argentina on penalties in the final after the game ended goalless. Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez scored the winning spot-kick to give the hosts victory. The Women’s World Cup final takes place tonight in Canada. There’s a repeat of the 2011 final on the cards as the winners on that occasion, Japan, take on Olympic champions, USA. Japan have made it to the final after an own-goal saw them past England in the semi-finals, while the States came through against Germany. Midnight tonight, Irish time, is kick-off time in Vancouver. England’s women have won a bronze medal at the World Cup in Canada. They secured a third place finish with a 1-0 victory against Germany last night. Sepp Blatter has claimed the former presidents of both France and Germany influenced the voting for the 2018 and 2022 World Cups. The FIFA president told a German newspaper that Nicolas Sarkozy and Christian Wulff made political interventions during the voting process. Blatter – who will miss the women’s World Cup final – also says he’ll remain in Switzerland and won’t travel until FIFA’s problems are sorted out. Real Madrid’s Sergio Ramos has told Spanish television that he’s ‘not negotiating with anyone’. It’s been widely reported the defender is keen on a move away from the club, and could be on the verge of joining Manchester United. But that doesn’t seem to be the case after saying in the interview that ‘all is well’.
