Charity Regulator to decide on renaming of former Animal Heaven Animal Rescue charity

Trustees of the former charity Animal Heaven Animal Rescue are currently in the process of renaming the charity.

The Castleisland-based charity was taken over by Athlone and West Midlands SPCA in March.

It is hoped the name will be changed to Animal Haven Ireland; which the group believe will help alleviate concerns and opposition held against AHAR.

The group are awaiting a decision on the issue from the Charity Regulator.

No fundraising can take place for the charity until the decision is made.

Billy Gallagher of Athlone and West Midlands SPCA feels this name change will be positive for the charity.

It was decided this week that the lands at the former AHAR site in Crag site, Castleisland will not be transferred to the Athlone charity.

The Castleisland site is a land trust which means it can’t be sold off for farming or development, it must always be used for animal welfare.

Billy Gallagher of Athlone SPCA explains why it can’t be sold on for another purpose.
