Chair of Kerry’s Joint Policing Committee says barriers to CCTV must be addressed to prevent rural crime

The chair of Kerry’s Joint Policing Committee says barriers to CCTV need to be addressed to prevent rural crime.

Councillor Niall Kelleher was speaking following recommendations in the Oireachtas Justice Committee report on community policing and tackling rural crime.

It outlines that CCTV plays an important role in crime prevention and in providing reassurance to people in rural communities.

The report adds that the roll-out of CCTV is being hindered by a number of factors.

Niall Kelleher says CCTV is vital for counties like Kerry and says all barriers need to be overcome so it can be installed in rural parts of the county.
