The chairman of the Kerry Vintners’ Federation fears the 9% VAT rate is at risk due to ‘greedy’ Dublin hotels.
Representatives from the pub trade met Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Shane Ross on a visit to Kerry yesterday.
They outlined measures they feel would revitalise small rural towns and villages, and impressed upon him the importance of the 9% VAT rate for tourism and hospitality businesses here.
Chairman of the Kerry Vintners’ Federation, Ger Counihan said Minister Ross confirmed to them that the 9% VAT rate is in jeopardy.
Mr Counihan believes ‘greedy’ Dublin hotels are to blame for this, and says if it’s removed Kerry businesses will suffer, and he’s appealing to the minister to keep it in place.
