Cautious welcome for Vodafone plans by Black Valley residents

Residents in the Black Valley are giving a cautious welcome to plans by Vodafone to erect a number of small mobile phone masts at a quarry in the Molls Gap. The general area is a telecommunications blindspot and Eircom recently said it would not be financially viable to provide a fixed phone network. The planning application is with Kerry County Council and with the deadline approaching next week, no submissions have been received by the Local Authority. An Taisce, who opposed a previous application, are due to view the site of the proposed masts, base station, dishes and antennae.
