Cathaoirleach and CEO of Kerry County Council seek meeting with An Taisce

The Cathaoirleach and CEO of Kerry County Council are seeking a meeting with the chair of An Taisce. John Brassil KCC chairman 2 The environmental group has been granted permission by the High Court to take a judicial review on a decision by An Bord Pleanala to give the green light to a road improvement scheme in west Kerry. The €65 million project for the main Dingle to Tralee road proposes to straighten and widen 28km of road and includes dedicated cycle tracks. An Taisce says the challenge is based on the planning appeals board’s failure to fulfil obligations under the EU Environmental Impact Assessment Directive. It adds that the proposal for the scenic route is of concern. Cathaoirleach of Kerry County Council John Brassil says four million euro earmarked for the project by the National Roads Authority this year could be lost because of the possible delay: [audio_player src=””] Meanwhile Kerry South deputy Brendan Griffin says he has been in touch with Transport Minister Paschal Donohoe to seek his intervention on the N86 issue. He has asked the minister to see if the judicial review can be avoided and if dialogue can be opened up.
