Castlemaine man’s trial to go ahead at Central Crimnal Court

The case of a man accused of the attempted rape and sexual assault of a woman has been sent forward for trial at the Dublin Circuit Criminal Court. Forty year old Patrick O Sullivan with an address at Ballyarkane Castlemaine is currently in custody at The Central Mental Hospital in Dundrum Dublin. He is to remain there until his arraignment. Solicitor Pat Mann informed the court that he had difficulty with the plea that was to be entered for his client as he has been in custody at The Central Mental HospitalThe DPP informed Judge Terence Finn that they are in a position to call evidence in relation to the fitness of the plea and had that their witness Dr Moran a psychiatrist at the Central Mental Hospital has travelled from Dublin today to give evidence. Following a brief consultation between the DPP, Defence Counsel and the state witness a request was made that the case move forward for trial. Solicitor Pat Mann told the court that he would not be raising any issue regarding the consent to plea at this time. However he reserved the right to do so at his client`s arraignment. Legal aid was granted by Judge Terence Finn.
